Why a Mom Should NOT be Induced
In today ’s society we are focused on convenience and scheduling, it can be tempting to think of birth as something we can schedule on the calendar- but in most healthy pregnancies, letting labor begin on its own is usually the safest and most gentle path for both mother and baby. - Membrane Sweep- manually separate your amniotic sac from lower part of the uterus
- Prostaglandins- Oral or vaginal pill that acts like hormones, and helps ripen your cervix and can stimulate contractions
- Foley Catheter- thin tube with 1 or 2 tine, uninflated balloons on the end once placed balloons will be filled with fluid putting pressure on your cervix to stimulate your body to release it’ s own prostaglandins
- Pitocin- if labor does not begin on its own, you ’ll be given Pitocin, synthetic oxytocin, the hormone that your body naturally produces in spontaneous labor
